Most people wonder what is the first step in learning how to speak Mandarin. Most from this forum know that it is all about the tones. Chinese children learn the pinyin tones at a very early age. Well what about the rest of us! Now there is an iphone app called "Beginner Mandarin". It starts you on the path on how to hear and speak Mandarin. ... 60401&mt=8

The pronunciation and voice is provided by a young women who grew up in Beijing and is the niece of a language professor at the University of Beijing.
Contains a quiz to help test your understanding of the tones in listening as well as understanding.
Provides examples of simplified chinese characters for all accepted tones to help in learning and understanding.

I'm going to be living in Taiwan for the next 9 months learning Mandarin and would like to use my iphone while I'm here. Obviously I'm not going to be paying roaming so I wanted to use my Taiwanese SIM from my Chinese phone.

I would still like to be able to do software and firmware updates. What are my options for unlocking an iphone? Has anyone used IphoneUnlocking? TurboSIM? Are they still available and are they any other options?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
