Re: Port of Unihan to Excel

I've had some success porting the Unihan DB to Excel. So far I'm able to show the 4 digit U+nnnn characters but am having trouble with the 5 digit characters. If you are using a MS Windows system you need to insert 5-digit (U+nnnnn) characters as a surrogate pair (recent versions of Office support ...

Re: Which language is best to learn?

I would like to learn the 'Chinese' language, but I'm just starting to research it and it's evident there are a few Chinese languages. I work in manufacturing and distribution, and my company does a lot of work in China. Learning the language would be a great skill for me to have. So my questions a...

Re: Question about Jyutping IME

I was wondering, who is developing this the Jyutping IME? Is it from somebody from this site? \ The jyutping IME from this site was developed using data from this site. It can be used to input characters from the Unicode CJK Extension B plane. For normal jyutping IMEs you can have a look at e.g. ht...

Re: how to learn cantonese.

I believe Yale romanization is better for people with English background. LSHK's jyutping romanization requires one to substitute several letters such as j for a y sound and z for a j sound. The Yale romanisation was intended for English people. Non-English speaking people, especially Europeans, mi...

Re: When Did Mandarin Become The Official Language?

When did Mandarin become the official language?? Thanks! The official standard (Putonghua) which is currently used was decided in 1955. But before that time there where already early attempts to introduce a modern official language. A few weeks ago an article in the China Daily mentioned that aroun...

Re: Windows language support

I use English version of Windows with Chinese (PRC) input language support. There are some words not available in Chinese (PRC) input language support but available in Chinese (Taiwan). For example, the words 覬覦. The words have their simplified versions and the ping yin is ji4 yu2 but I cannot find...
